Chase Jarvis Hanger Shoot 2
August 10, 2008 | Filed Under Events | Leave a Comment
Last Friday night (August 8, 2008), I had the fortunate opportunity to attend a Seattle Flickr Meetup photo shoot hosted by the great Chase Jarvis.
Chase rented an aircraft hanger in Magnuson Park in Seattle, Washington to host the event. Glazers Camera provided multiple stations with lights, backdrops and pocket wizards.
To kick the event off, Chase provided an educational session on how he approaches a photo session working with his models. His subjects for the demonstration were a group of three very talented break dancers.
In addition to the break dancers, there were models and bmx ramp riders that provided the approximately 100 photographers plenty of opportunity for photos.
I ended up spending most of my time photographing the BMX riders but I did venture in a for a short shoot of one model named Rachael. I also did a lot of observing and networking with other photographers.
After the evening photo shoot was over, Chase treated the group to an after hours party at the Luau Polynesian Lounge for a light snack and beverages.
This was a great event for all who attended. The opportunity to see how Chase approaches a photo shoot was worth the whole trip in itself. The models, lighting setups, etc. were all icing on the cake.
My gratitude to Chase and his crew, as well as the Seattle Flickr Meetup organizers. Job well done.

Softball on a Dark and Rainy Washington Evening

On a dark and rainy Thursday evening, my daughter had a softball game. I guess in Western Washington, it has to be pouring to rain out a softball game.
This photo was taken at Bradley Lake Park, Puyallup, Washington.
Low Tide on the Puget Sound

On June 4, 2008, near record low tides on Washington state’s Puget Sound allowed for the rare glimpse of marine life and old industrial structures normally underwater. This series of images were taken along Tacoma’s waterfront along Ruston Way.

Eastern Washington Photo Tour - 05.25.2008

Over the Memorial Day weekend, my son and I made a photo tour through the coulee country of eastern Washington. It was a great day of exploring and taking notes of where to come back later for some great landscape photographs. The following were two of my favorite photos of the day.
The Old Highland School House. The old school house is located just off US 2 just east of Waterville, Washington. Unfortunately, vandals have left their mark. I imagine, in the next few years, this relic of the past will be lost.
Slack Canyon Road. The Slack Canyon Road is a narrow, primitive road that travels between US 2 (near Waterville, Washington) and the Moses Coulee just north of Palisades, Washington. The Slack Canyon Road currently requires the use of a high clearance four wheel drive vehicle to navigate it’s entire length. It appears that in the near future, the road will be eventually washed out and not negotiable by anything larger than an ATV or motorcycle.
