An Evening with Chase Jarvis
January 13, 2010 by Steve
Last August, I was fortunate enough to quicky email back a reply in order to get into an invitation only session photography with Chase Jarvis. The first 25 replies back to his email received an invitation to his studio in Seattle. It was full in something like 90 seconds.
In addition to the Seattle area photographers, there were quite a number of photogs from around the US and Canada that flew in to attend the session.
After meeting at his his studio, the group walked over to the InnerSpace Indoor Skate Park where Chase’s crew set up pro lighting to use throughout the venue. After Chase gave a short talk on how he approaches action photo shoots, he turned everybody loose to photograph the hard-working athletes that volunteered to show off their skate borading skills. All you had to do was plug in the provided PocketWizard and start shooting.
After the session at the skate park, we all headed back for appetizers and refreshments, in the usually Chase Jarvis style.
As the evening wore on, a lot of the attendees left, leaving a small group of people who hung out into the early hours of the morning, learning what we could from Chase, listening to music and watching videos in the studio.
The following is a video Chase posted on YouTube of the night at the skate park. You can see me lurking in the background of many of the scenes.
