In the Pacific Northwest, where the autumn skies often hang heavy with clouds and rain, moments of sun-kissed clarity are treasured. A few weeks ago, my daughter and I seized one such opportunity, embarking on a spontaneous trip to the Long Beach Peninsula of Washington State. We were desperate for fresh air and scenery after being cooped up indoors.
Our first stop was Beard’s Hollow, a picturesque beach nestled at the base of a towering bluff. The late autumn sun shone brilliantly, and we basked in its warmth, capturing a few photographs of the waves crashing against the rocks. Reinvigorated, we made our way to the North Head Lighthouse, a historic landmark perched atop a cliff, offering breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean.
The sun hung low on the horizon as we approached the lighthouse, casting a warm glow that accentuated the striking contrast between the white lighthouse and the sky. We had the place practically to ourselves, save for a lone woman and her friendly canine companion. Inspired by the perfect light and the elegant lines of the lighthouse, I couldn’t resist capturing the scene through the lens of my camera.

As dusk settled, and darkness fell across the landscape, we reluctantly returned to my Jeep, anticipating our return to this picturesque location. Our brief escape had refreshed our souls, and we carried home the memory of the coast’s beauty.
