I photograph the Pacific Northwest in black and white because it helps me see the landscape more clearly. Without color, I pay closer attention to light, weather, texture, and the relationships between water, stone, forest, and sky.
This collection brings together my Pacific Northwest fine art landscape photography from Washington and Oregon. It includes quiet forests, coastal landscapes, rivers, waterfalls, volcanic terrain, and the peaks of the Cascades. Each photograph begins with time spent in the landscape, watching conditions change and responding to what the place offers rather than working from a fixed plan.
The Northwest is shaped by water, geology, elevation, and weather. Those forces give the region much of its character. Through black-and-white photography, I use form, tone, and texture to explore that character and my own response to it.

Returning to familiar regions doesn’t mean making the same photographs. I reflect on how exploring familiar parts of the Pacific Northwest continues to reveal new landscapes, smaller scenes, and unexpected photographs.
While exploring an unnamed creek on the Olympic Peninsula, I worked from the larger landscape toward the movement of water and rock that became Heart of the Cascade.
Before dawn on Washington’s Olympic Peninsula, the Harvest Moon slowly disappeared behind mist and forest. Veiled Departure explores a fleeting moment between night and day, where soft light, drifting fog, and quiet stillness came together in a black-and-white photograph that reflects the peaceful transition from one day to the next.
After days of rain, Porter Creek in Washington’s Capital State Forest became a study in movement. Within the Pull explores the quiet tension between rushing water and moments of stillness, using black-and-white photography to reveal the fleeting patterns of light, shadow, and current that exist for only an instant.
