One of the perks of living in Washington is having access to some of the most scenic hiking trails in the country. But even though I’ve been a Washingtonian all my life, there was one trail I had never explored: the Naches Peak Trail.

Last summer, I decided to change that. I wanted to experience the trail at sunrise, so I drove to Chinook Pass and camped overnight at the parking lot. I was eager to see what the trail offered and why it was popular among hikers.

The following day, I woke up before dawn and started my hike. The trail took me through alpine meadows full of wildflowers and offered spectacular views of nearby peaks. But nothing prepared me for when I turned a corner and saw Mount Rainier in all its glory.

It was breathtaking. The morning light shone on the mountain, creating a stunning contrast of light and shadow. I felt a surge of awe and gratitude for witnessing such a magnificent sight.

I continued my hike, enjoying every step and every view. Along the way, I saw another fantastic scene: the Cowlitz Chimneys, a group of jagged rock formations, with Mount Rainier looming in the background. It was a perfect composition; I knew I had to capture it with my camera.

I spent some time finding the best angle and setting for my shot. I wanted to convey the beauty and emotion of that moment in a personally expressive photograph. A panoramic image would best tell the story. After taking several pictures, I finally got one that satisfied me.

I finished my hike feeling happy and fulfilled. The scenery along Naches Peak Trail exceeded my expectations and gave me an unforgettable experience.

Now, when I look at this photograph, I remember that wonderful morning on the trail. It reminds me how lucky I am to live in such a beautiful place. It also inspires me to keep exploring and discovering new trails and wonders.

If you’re looking for a hike that will leave you speechless and fill you with joy, I highly recommend the Naches Peak Trail. You won’t regret it.
