While traveling SR109 toward the Washington coast, I noticed a Public Fishing sign along the highway and decided to follow the road down to the Humptulips River.
From the riverbank, I found this view of the bridge crossing the water. The quiet river, bare winter trees, and steel structure caught my attention. I liked the contrast between the straight lines of the bridge and the softer shapes of the surrounding landscape.
The overcast winter light worked especially well for black-and-white photography. Without strong sunlight or deep shadows, the scene had a subdued quality that fit the gray afternoon along the river.
This photograph was made during an afternoon of exploring the north shore of Grays Harbor, with stops along the Humptulips River, Jessie Slough, Grays Harbor, and Ocean Shores.

Was this taken from the launch area south of the bridge….or north
If my sense of orientation from memory is correct, I believe from the South.
Thought so…it’s in my area and I cross the bridge all the time…must go check out the possibilities…
